Emiliano Daniel Velázquez Maldonado — Uruguayan central defender, born in Montevideo in 1994 — arrived at Getafe in a high-profile move: in August 2014, he signed a five-year contract with Atlético de Madrid, and the following day was loaned to Getafe for the 2014/15 season.

Getafe CF — The Azulones of Madrid

Founded in 1983 in the city of Getafe — south of the Community of Madrid —, Getafe CF is one of the most surprising cases in modern Spanish football. In 2004, they were promoted to La Liga for the first time and were never the same club again.

In just three years in the top flight, they reached the Copa del Rey final in 2007, eliminating Barcelona in a historic comeback, played in the quarterfinals of the 2007/08 UEFA Cup against Bayern Munich, and reached the Copa del Rey final in 2008. A club from a satellite city of Madrid that became a European protagonist.

Historic Milestones

1983
Founding of Getafe Club de Fútbol in the city of the same name, 13 km south of Madrid. The "Azulones" club is born.
2004
First promotion to La Liga. The club debuts in the Spanish top flight and definitively establishes itself among the greats.
2006/07
Eliminated Barcelona in the Copa del Rey semi-finals — losing the first leg 5–2 and winning the second 4–0. Reached the final, losing to Sevilla 1–0 at the Santiago Bernabéu.
2007/08
UEFA Cup quarterfinals against Bayern Munich — a draw in Munich and 3–3 at home when they were winning 3–1 with 5 minutes left. Second consecutive Copa del Rey final, losing to Valencia.
2014/15
