#16 — Nicolás Schenone

Nicolás Andrés Schenone Paz de Olivera — Uruguayan defensive midfielder, born in Montevideo in 1986 — signed with Alavés in September 2013, precisely in the season the club had just been promoted to the Segunda División. He debuted for the Basque club in a Copa del Rey match against Real Zaragoza.

"The jersey of a player who arrived at the exact moment of the reconstruction of a historic Basque football club."

Schenone traveled half of Europe before arriving in Spain: Miramar Misiones, Cerro Largo, PAS Giannina in Greece, América de Cali in Colombia, and Liverpool FC of Uruguay — a rich trajectory that reflects the typical resilience of Uruguayan football.

Deportivo Alavés — Pride of the Basque Country

Founded on January 23, 1921, in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the capital of the Basque Country, Deportivo Alavés is the third most decorated club in Basque football — only behind Athletic Club de Bilbao and Real Sociedad de San Sebastián.

In 2001, in its debut year in European competition, it reached the UEFA Cup final — eliminating strong rivals along the way and losing to Liverpool 5-4 in a historic match, decided by a golden goal. One of the greatest feats in Spanish football in the 21st century.
