In 2012/13, he was at his peak with Mineros — he scored 3 goals in 4 games in the 2012 Copa Sudamericana, leading the Venezuelans to win away from home for the first time in the competition's history. In 2016, he was voted the Best Player of the Copa Libertadores for Atlético Nacional — the first Venezuelan champion of the competition. In 2017, Palmeiras paid US$ 3.7 million to acquire him.

In 2012, Mineros achieved a historic feat in the Copa Sudamericana: they were the first Venezuelan club to win away from home in the competition.
