In the year prior to the launch of this jersey, under the command of Argentine Mario Vanemerak, Millonarios had the best continental campaign in its history in the 21st century: for the first time since the golden era of the 60s and 70s, it reached the semifinals of an international tournament, eliminating São Paulo FC in the quarter-finals — becoming the only Colombian club to win in the mythical Morumbi Stadium. The campaign ended in the 2007 Copa Sudamericana semifinals, but left a legacy that is still remembered by the Albiazul fans today.
