CSC was founded in 1982 by a group of young people from Christianshavn and Freetown Christiania, an autonomous and alternative community in Copenhagen, and officially began to represent the neighborhood in Danish amateur football, under the affiliation of the Dansk Boldspil-Union (DBU).

With slogans like "You'll Never Smoke Alone" and "Joint The Club," the club reflects the liberal relationship of the Christiania community with cannabis, becoming a unique cultural symbol in European football, alongside other alternative clubs like Lunatics FC from Belgium.
