Meteoric Rise · From Série D to Copa Sudamericana
A club from Chapecó (SC), Chapecoense rose from Série D of Brazilian football in 2009 to Série A in just five years, reaching its first international final in 2016, the Copa Sudamericana, against Atlético Nacional of Colombia.
The White Star on the Badge
After the November 2016 plane crash, in which the club lost a large part of its delegation en route to the Sudamericana final, CONMEBOL declared Chapecoense the champion of the tournament, at the request of Atlético Nacional itself. In homage, the club began to display a white star above the badge, representing the title and the memory of those who passed away.
Reconstruction and Legacy
In the following years, Chapecoense rebuilt itself with the support of fans, rival clubs, and the global football community, keeping alive the memory of the victims and continuing in national and continental competitions as a symbol of resilience.
