A Jersey Born from a Dissension
Athletico Paranaense was founded on March 26, 1924, after the union between Internacional and América, both from Curitiba. And here's a little-known fact: few people know, but in the blood of all Athleticans flow hemoglobin and white blood cells from the "coxas-brancas" (Coritiba fans). One of the clubs that originated Atlético is the result of a dissension from the green-and-whites. In 1912, the Leão and Maeder families broke with the Coritiba board and, encouraged by the Guimarães family, founded Internacional de Curitiba. Twelve years later, Internacional merged with América and Athletico Paranaense emerged.
