The Corinthians' White Shirt: From English Beige to a Symbol of the People

A Camisa Branca do Corinthians: Do Bege Inglês ao Símbolo do Povo

The Corinthians jersey you see today — white, simple, powerful — wasn't always like this. And the story behind this change says a lot about the identity of Brazil's most popular club.

The Beginning: The Beige Shirt of the English

Corinthians was founded on September 1, 1910, in the Bom Retiro neighborhood of São Paulo, by humble workers inspired by the English club Corinthian-Casuals. And the club's first jersey was beige — the same color used by its English namesake. The color was changed to white in 1910 to facilitate the cleaning of the uniform, as the club was frequented by manual laborers.

Since then, the white jersey has become Timão's strongest identity — a symbol of simplicity and the strength of the people.

22 Years Without Shouting "Só o Corinthians"

During the longest title drought in the club's history, Corinthians went from 1955 to 1977 without winning the Campeonato Paulista. The fans, known as Fiel, suffered for 22 years without being able to hear the champion's cry. Relief only came in an emotional final against Ponte Preta, with Basílio's goal — one of the most remarkable moments in the history of São Paulo football.

The Biggest Rout by Brazilian Teams

Wearing the white mantle, Timão recorded the biggest rout in the history of the Brazilian Championships: 10-1 against Tiradentes-PI, on February 9, 1983. A record that remains unbeaten to this day.

Corinthian Democracy and the Jersey

In the 1980s, Corinthians experienced a unique experiment in the world of football: Corinthian Democracy, led by the philosopher-player Sócrates. Players, coaching staff, and employees voted as equals on everything — including the uniform design. The white jersey of that era became a symbol of resistance and freedom.

World Champion in the White Jersey

In 2000, wearing the traditional white, Corinthians won the first FIFA Club World Cup, defeating Real Madrid in the semi-final and Vasco in the final. That generation's jersey, with Pepsi sponsorship, is still one of the most desired by collectors worldwide.

The Fiel Torcida and Their Jersey

The expression "Fiel Torcida" (Loyal Supporters) was coined in 1942 by journalist Thomaz Mazzoni, and since then the white jersey has been the symbol of one of the most passionate fan bases on the planet. In 1976, 70,000 Corinthians fans invaded the Maracanã in the Brasileirão semi-final — a white multitude that made its mark on Brazilian football.

At Garrincha Shirts, you'll find historic Corinthians jerseys to celebrate this unique identity. The white that represents a people.
